Dennis Miracles Aboagye has returned to Ghana’s political battlefield with a defiant message, declaring that his detention by the Economic and Organised Crime Office has strengthened rather than silenced him.

Breaking his silence following his release from EOCO custody, the outspoken New Patriotic Party communicator rejected reports suggesting that investigators questioned him about alleged GH¢55 million financial irregularities at the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation.

“For the records, there was no discussion of any GH¢55 million with me by EOCO. None!” he stated in a social media post, challenging the public narrative surrounding his arrest.

Miracles Aboagye was arrested as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged financial and procurement irregularities during his tenure as Executive Secretary of the committee. EOCO says the probe concerns suspected misappropriation, diversion and theft of public funds amounting to approximately GH¢55 million. The allegations remain under investigation, and no court has found Aboagye guilty of any offence.

However, the NPP figure believes his detention may have been intended to intimidate him politically.

“If the intention was to break me, it has failed. If the intention was to scare me, it has failed spectacularly,” he declared.

His release followed intense political pressure and criticism over the GH¢50 million bail condition imposed by EOCO. His lawyers described the requirement for three sureties, two of whom had to be justified, as excessive and difficult to satisfy within the available time.

Far from retreating, Miracles Aboagye has reaffirmed his ambition to become the NPP’s National Communications Director. He described the episode as additional motivation for his campaign, declaring that “fuel has only been added to fire.”

He also thanked the NPP leadership, his legal team and party supporters who gathered and demanded his release.

“I will lead the New Patriotic Party’s Communications Directorate to command the narrative, and no cell, no false story, no intimidation will change that,” he vowed.

His powerful comeback statement is expected to intensify the growing political confrontation between the opposition NPP and the governing NDC over EOCO’s recent actions.

EOCO has maintained that its investigations are being conducted professionally, impartially and within the law. The agency has not yet publicly responded to Aboagye’s claim that investigators never questioned him about the alleged GH¢55 million matter.
