The mother of Egypt international Moustafa Zico has spoken out about her poor relationship with her son, stating that she believes she has lost her position in his life after his marriage.
In an emotional interview, the heartbroken mother admitted she now feels like a secondary priority, claiming the footballer’s wife has taken the place she once held.
“I was number one in his life, and now his wife has become number one, and I’ve become number two,” she said.
She also disclosed that despite Egypt’s participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, she has been unable to spend time with her son since the tournament ended.
According to her, she reached out to Moustafa Zico hoping to see him after the World Cup celebrations but was left disappointed.
“I wanted to see him after the World Cup, but he still hasn’t made time for me,” she said.
The footballer’s mother revealed that she even suggested attending the team’s celebration at the stadium just to catch a glimpse of him.
“I called him and said, ‘Okay, should I come to the celebration at the stadium to see you?’”
However, she claims her son discouraged her from coming.
“He told me: ‘It’ll be a hassle for you!’”
Her remarks have sparked widespread reactions on social media, with many fans expressing sympathy for the mother, while others argued that married couples naturally establish new family priorities.
Moustafa Zico has yet to publicly respond to his mother’s comments.
