An Accra Circuit Court has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of New Patriotic Party communicator Kweku Osei Korankye Asiedu, popularly known as KOKA, after he failed to appear before the court to answer serious criminal charges.
KOKA, who is also described as a marketer, is facing charges of threat of death and publication of false news. The case is connected to videos in which he allegedly made threatening statements against officials of the Economic and Organised Crime Office.
When the case was called, KOKA was absent despite the prosecution’s claim that he had been properly informed about the hearing. Chief Inspector Wisdom Alorwu reportedly described his failure to attend as disrespectful to the court and requested action to secure his appearance.
After considering the prosecution’s submission, the presiding judge ordered KOKA’s arrest and adjourned proceedings until August 25, 2026.
According to the prosecution, the controversy began with a video recorded on May 29, 2026. KOKA allegedly claimed that the homes of EOCO officers were known and threatened that the officials would be killed.
He was later invited for questioning on July 14 as investigators examined the footage circulating on social media.
The prosecution also accused KOKA of making another unverified claim involving NPP communicator Dennis Miracles Aboagye while he was reportedly assisting EOCO with investigations. Authorities argue that the statement was intended to mislead the public, create tension and interfere with EOCO officials performing their duties.
Prosecutors further alleged that the driver of EOCO’s Executive Director was pursued by several unidentified motorcyclists after the videos emerged, creating fear among staff members. No evidence presented publicly has established that KOKA directed those individuals.
The bench warrant adds another dramatic chapter to a case that has already attracted widespread political and public attention.
However, the allegations against KOKA have not been proven in court. He remains legally presumed innocent unless prosecutors establish their case beyond a reasonable doubt.
With the court ordering his arrest, attention will now turn to whether KOKA voluntarily appears, is taken into custody or offers an explanation for missing the scheduled hearing.
