Paris Saint-Germain have added another European trophy to their growing collection after battling past Aston Villa 2-1 to retain the UEFA Super Cup in Salzburg.
The Champions League holders were pushed hard by Unai Emery’s spirited Villa side, but goals from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Désiré Doué ensured Luis Enrique’s men walked away with the silverware for a second consecutive year.
PSG struck first in the 20th minute when Kvaratskhelia produced a moment of individual brilliance. After receiving the ball from Doué, the Georgian attacker cut inside before unleashing a powerful finish to put the French champions ahead.
Villa refused to surrender.
Just before halftime, 17-year-old Brian Madjo announced himself on the European stage in stunning fashion. After hitting the post moments earlier, the teenager connected with John McGinn’s delivery to fire Villa level at 1-1.
The goal also wrote Madjo into the history books as the youngest scorer in UEFA Super Cup history.
Villa carried their momentum into the second half and nearly completed the turnaround when McGinn tested PSG goalkeeper Matvei Safonov, who produced an important save.
But PSG’s ruthless quality eventually made the difference.
In the 61st minute, substitute Ousmane Dembélé unlocked Villa’s defence with a superb through ball. Doué timed his run perfectly before calmly beating goalkeeper Marco Bizot to restore PSG’s advantage.
The goal was initially ruled out for offside, but VAR intervened and confirmed that Matty Cash had played the PSG attacker onside, sending the Paris supporters into celebration.
Emery threw on more attacking options as Villa searched desperately for another equaliser, but PSG’s defence survived the late pressure to seal a 2-1 victory.
The triumph means PSG have now won the UEFA Super Cup in 2025 and 2026, becoming only the third club after AC Milan and Real Madrid to win the competition in consecutive years.
For Aston Villa, it was heartbreak after a courageous performance. For PSG, however, the message to Europe could not be clearer, the winning machine from Paris keeps collecting trophies.
