Ghana’s business and media fraternity has been hit by sad news following the death of renowned entrepreneur and Kessben Media owner Stephen Kwabena Boateng, widely known as Kwabena Kesse or Kessben.

The respected businessman passed away at the age of 68 on Thursday, August 20, 2026. Graphic Online reports that he died following an illness.

Kessben was one of the most recognizable business figures in the Ashanti Region, building an extensive business empire that stretched across broadcasting, education, finance, hospitality, travel and other sectors.

He was the founder and driving force behind the Kessben Group of Companies and the owner of Kessben FM Limited, which operates Kessben FM and other media interests. His investment in broadcasting helped make the Kessben name one of the prominent media brands in Kumasi and beyond.

Born on September 12, 1957, Boateng grew up at North Suntreso in Kumasi. His journey to becoming a successful entrepreneur began modestly before he ventured into several businesses and eventually established a diversified group of companies.

His interests also extended into education. He founded Kessben College, now Kessben University College, pursuing a long-held dream of contributing to tertiary education in Ghana.

Beyond his business accomplishments, Kessben became known for philanthropic initiatives. Through the Kessben Outreach Foundation and his companies, he supported projects in education and healthcare, including assistance to communities and medical facilities.

News of his passing has triggered mourning and tributes, particularly in Kumasi, where his businesses and media platforms have maintained a strong presence for decades.

Stephen “Kessben” Boateng leaves behind a remarkable legacy as an entrepreneur who transformed a business vision into a recognizable Ghanaian brand spanning multiple industries.
