HULL CITY STUN MAN UNITED! Tigers Roar Back Into Premier League With Sensational 2-0 Opening-Day Victory

Email 18

Hull City marked their long-awaited return to the Premier League in spectacular fashion after producing a stunning 2-0 victory over Manchester United at the MKM Stadium on Saturday.

Back in England’s top flight after a nine-year absence, the Tigers showed no signs of intimidation against one of the biggest clubs in world football. Instead, Hull delivered an aggressive and disciplined performance that left Michael Carrick’s Manchester United side searching for answers on the opening weekend of the 2026/27 season.

Semi Ajayi sparked the celebrations for the home supporters after United failed to deal with a dangerous corner. Oli McBurnie’s effort was initially stopped on the goal line by goalkeeper Senne Lammens, but Ajayi reacted quickly to fire home the rebound and send the stadium into a frenzy.

Things went from bad to worse for the visitors when another set-piece exposed their defensive problems.

A dangerous delivery from Regan Slater found Nobel Mendy, who rose to head home from close range and double Hull’s advantage. The goal gave the Premier League newcomers a commanding 2-0 lead before halftime.

United struggled to produce the response their supporters expected. New midfield arrivals Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos found it difficult to control proceedings, while Matheus Cunha was unable to provide a consistent threat in attack.

Carrick introduced Marcus Rashford after the break in an attempt to inject some urgency into his side, but Hull remained organised and refused to surrender their advantage.

The Tigers were able to protect their two-goal cushion throughout the second half, frustrating United with their physicality, defensive structure and determination.

The victory was particularly historic for Hull, representing their first league triumph over Manchester United since 1974 and providing the perfect celebration of their Premier League comeback.

For Hull City, it was a dream return: three points, a clean sheet and a famous victory over Manchester United.

For Carrick and the Red Devils, however, the shock defeat provides an immediate warning that there is plenty of work to be done if United are to challenge near the top of the Premier League this season.
