Ghanaian dancehall heavyweight Shatta Wale has sparked fresh controversy after claiming that the Government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, owes him approximately GH¢5 million for promotional work connected to the Black Stars’ 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.
The multiple award-winning musician made the explosive claim during an interview with Serwaa Amihere on GHOne TV, where he opened up about his frustrations with some government officials.
According to Shatta Wale, he and his team used his huge social media presence and brand influence to promote the Black Stars through posts and advertisements ahead of and during Ghana’s World Cup campaign.
However, the artiste claimed that despite delivering the promotional services expected of him, he has yet to receive payment.
Shatta Wale alleged that the outstanding amount is around GH¢5 million, adding that attempts to get the matter resolved have left him frustrated.
The “On God” hitmaker also expressed disappointment with the treatment he says he has received from officials, arguing that the situation amounts to disrespect toward a brand of his stature.
During the conversation, Shatta Wale made it clear that while he admires President John Dramani Mahama’s ideology, he is not entirely satisfied with the conduct of some officials serving under the administration.
His comments have inevitably placed fresh attention on the Sports Ministry, headed by Kofi Adams, particularly over arrangements surrounding promotional activities connected to Ghana’s participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Shatta Wale’s relationship with Ghana’s World Cup campaign had already attracted public attention earlier in 2026. In March, the musician publicly pledged $100,000 toward the Black Stars’ World Cup campaign during a fundraising initiative.
He told GHOne TV that his Hotwav team handled matters surrounding the contribution.
The latest GH¢5 million allegation is separate from that donation and relates specifically to promotional work Shatta Wale says was carried out by him and his team.
As of the time of publication, the Ministry of Sports and Recreation had not publicly responded to Shatta Wale’s latest allegation, while the exact contractual details surrounding the claimed GH¢5 million payment have not been independently established.
With Shatta Wale publicly airing his frustration, pressure may now mount on the Sports Ministry to clarify whether such an agreement existed and whether any payment remains outstanding.
