The federal murder-for-hire trial of Lil Durk took another dramatic turn after the wife of cooperating witness Kacey “OTF Jam” Hester appeared in court for the defense and openly challenged portions of her husband’s testimony.
Hester has emerged as one of the prosecution’s most important witnesses, telling jurors that Durk, whose real name is Durk Banks, was connected to the alleged plot targeting rapper Quando Rondo. But on Thursday, September 3, Hester’s own wife took the stand and made it clear she was deeply unhappy about his decision to testify against Durk.
According to courtroom reporting, Hester previously testified about receiving a phone call concerning an urgent trip to Los Angeles and suggested his wife was present when the call occurred.
His wife disputed that account:
She testified that she was not present for the alleged phone conversation concerning the Los Angeles trip and said investigators never interviewed her to confirm whether she had witnessed it. She also told jurors that her husband’s cooperation was creating serious problems for their family.
The dramatic testimony could give Durk’s defense another opportunity to question Hester’s credibility.
And the situation became even more damaging when Hester’s former girlfriend also testified for the defense. Asked whether Hester was known to be truthful, she described him as someone who was not truthful and called him a manipulator. However, prosecutors later challenged her own credibility by confronting her over previous arrests after she initially claimed she had never been arrested.
Hester himself has faced intense questioning about his cooperation with authorities. His defense cross-examination previously focused on whether he hoped cooperating could improve his own legal situation. Hester has denied wanting Lil Durk to receive a life sentence.

The government argues cooperating witnesses provide crucial inside information linking Durk to the alleged murder-for-hire conspiracy. Durk’s lawyers, meanwhile, have aggressively attacked inconsistencies and motives behind those witnesses’ accounts.
With both the prosecution and defense now resting their cases, closing arguments are expected on Tuesday, September 8.
One thing is certain: when a key witness’s own wife takes the stand and disputes part of his story, the credibility battle surrounding Lil Durk’s case becomes even more intense.
