Black Stars Set for Another African Showdown as Tanzania Announces Blockbuster September Friendly With Ghana

Email 8

The Black Stars of Ghana are set for another international test after Tanzania announced plans to face the four-time African champions in a friendly during the September international window.

The encounter will pit Ghana against Tanzania’s Taifa Stars as both national teams use the extended international break to sharpen their squads amid the opening stages of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

For Ghana, the friendly adds another important fixture to what promises to be a busy period for head coach Carlos Queiroz, who was recently confirmed to continue leading the Black Stars following the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Before meeting Tanzania, Ghana will begin its AFCON 2027 qualifying campaign with a huge away clash against Côte d’Ivoire on September 24 before returning home to face The Gambia on September 29.

Tanzania will also have competitive business to handle before facing Ghana. The Taifa Stars are scheduled to meet Guinea-Bissau and Madagascar in their opening qualification matches. Although Tanzania has already secured a place at AFCON 2027 as one of the co-hosts alongside Kenya and Uganda, the qualifiers remain an important part of their preparations for the continental tournament.

The East African side has already begun assembling its squad for the international window, with players including Sabri Kondo and Bernard Kamungo among those called up.

For Queiroz, the Tanzania friendly could provide another opportunity to experiment with his lineup, assess emerging players and strengthen the Black Stars ahead of future competitive assignments.

The meeting will also renew an international rivalry that has been quiet for years, with reports noting that Ghana and Tanzania have not faced each other since 2008.

While Tanzania has confirmed the friendly, the exact date and venue have not yet been officially announced.

Still, one thing is already guaranteed: Ghana versus Tanzania will add another intriguing African battle to an already action-packed international window.
