What was supposed to be a joyful wedding day turned into a terrifying ordeal for a Florida couple after the groom was seriously injured in a head-on car crash just minutes before reaching their wedding venue.

Kapri DeRamus was traveling to Altamonte Springs on September 5 to marry his longtime partner, Tyasia Thomas, when his vehicle was struck head-on. The crash happened about 15 minutes from the venue, dramatically changing the couple’s carefully planned celebration.

DeRamus suffered severe injuries, including two broken arms, a fractured jaw, rib injuries and a serious cut to his knee. He was rushed to Orlando Regional Medical Center for emergency treatment as his bride and relatives learned of the devastating accident.

Thomas reportedly received the frightening news about an hour before they were scheduled to exchange vows. Instead of continuing to the wedding venue, she and family members immediately rushed to the hospital to be by DeRamus’ side.

But the accident could not stop the couple from becoming husband and wife.

After doctors stabilized DeRamus, the pair decided they would still get married that same evening. Surrounded by relatives and loved ones, Thomas stood beside her injured fiancé as he remained in his hospital bed and the two exchanged their wedding vows.

Video from the emotional ceremony shows family members cheering as DeRamus’ grandfather officiated the wedding and officially introduced the newlyweds. Thomas then leaned toward her husband for a kiss, transforming a hospital room into an unforgettable wedding venue.

The couple had reportedly been together for six years before their dramatic wedding day.

Instead of immediately celebrating with a honeymoon, the newlyweds are now focused on DeRamus’ recovery, medical expenses and the financial impact of the crash. A fundraising campaign has also been established by Thomas’ brother to assist the couple.

Their remarkable wedding has since captured attention online, turning what began as a horrifying accident into a powerful story of commitment and determination.

The crash changed their wedding venue—but it did not stop them from saying “I do.”
