Police have arrested a man in Ashaiman over allegations that he was impersonating a soldier, triggering an investigation into how he allegedly obtained military uniforms and why they were in his possession.
According to information surrounding the arrest, the suspect was taken into custody after police became suspicious about his alleged presentation as a member of the Ghana Armed Forces.
During interrogation, the man reportedly denied being an enlisted soldier and instead told investigators that he works as a civilian employee at a military barracks, where he provides barbering services.
The suspect also reportedly offered an explanation for his access to military clothing. He allegedly told police that he had been procuring military uniforms and supplying or selling them to soldiers stationed at the barracks.
His explanation is expected to form part of the ongoing investigation as authorities seek to establish how he acquired the uniforms and whether he had authorization to possess or distribute them.
Police are also expected to determine whether the suspect had previously presented himself to members of the public as a military officer and whether any other individuals may be connected to the alleged activities.

The arrest comes amid continuing concerns in Ghana about people unlawfully using military and other security-service uniforms. Authorities have previously warned that unauthorized possession or use of security uniforms and accoutrements can create serious public-safety concerns, particularly when they are used to deceive members of the public.
In June 2024, Ghana’s Ministry of the Interior warned against the unauthorized use of uniforms resembling those of the military and other security agencies, stressing that offenders could face arrest and legal action.
For now, the suspect’s statements regarding his employment at the barracks and his alleged uniform business remain claims that investigators will have to verify.
Police investigations are continuing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the case and determine what charges, if any, will ultimately be brought against him.
