A Florida mother and her adult son are facing serious criminal charges after authorities say a domestic dispute unexpectedly exposed an alleged sexual relationship between the two that had continued for several years.
Christina Clemens, 46, and her 22-year-old son, Shane Clemens, of Lakeland, Florida, have both been charged with incest, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. Christina also faces an adultery-related charge, while Shane was charged in connection with the alleged domestic violence incident that initially brought deputies to the home.
Authorities said Christina contacted law enforcement and accused her son of hitting her during an argument. Shane was subsequently taken into custody.
But investigators say the case took a dramatic turn when Shane allegedly told deputies that he and his mother had been involved in a sexual relationship since he turned 18.
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said detectives questioned Christina about her son’s allegation, and she allegedly admitted that the two had engaged in sexual activity approximately 100 times.
Investigators also spoke with Christina’s husband, who reportedly told authorities that he had not known about the alleged relationship. He said, however, that he had previously become suspicious after noticing his wife and son entering the master bedroom together and locking the door.
Court-related reports indicate the alleged relationship had continued for roughly four years before being uncovered during the domestic investigation.
Under Florida law, knowingly engaging in sexual intercourse with a close blood relative, including a parent or child, constitutes incest and is classified as a third-degree felony.
The unusual case has attracted widespread attention since details became public, but the charges remain allegations. Christina and Shane Clemens are entitled to the presumption of innocence unless they are found guilty in court.
What began as a reported domestic dispute has now developed into a criminal case involving allegations that could carry significant legal consequences for both mother and son.
