Nigeria’s entertainment industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of respected Nollywood filmmaker, producer and director Dimbo Atiya.

News of Atiya’s passing emerged on Thursday, August 6, 2026, sending shockwaves across the movie industry. Filmmaker and Best of Nollywood Awards founder Seun Oloketuyi announced that the acclaimed director had died earlier that morning.

Popular actor Mofe Duncan also reacted emotionally to the devastating news, describing Atiya as one of the greatest creative minds in the entertainment industry. His tribute reflected the heartbreak felt by actors, producers, crew members and viewers familiar with Atiya’s remarkable work.
