A dramatic and unexpected development has emerged in Lil Durk’s ongoing federal murder-for-hire trial after one of the selected jurors was involved in a serious car accident and had to be replaced.
The incident was disclosed in federal court in Los Angeles before opening statements began on Monday, August 24, 2026. U.S. District Judge Michael W. Fitzgerald informed the court that one of the jurors selected for the high-profile case had been involved in a major automobile accident over the weekend and was undergoing surgery.
Because the juror was unable to continue serving, the judge excused the individual from the panel and replaced them with one of the four alternate jurors previously selected.
The unusual development added another unexpected turn to a trial that has already generated enormous attention from hip-hop fans and legal observers.
Jury selection began on August 20, with approximately 80 prospective jurors initially considered. By the end of the selection process, the court had seated 12 regular jurors and four alternates, providing replacements in situations where a juror becomes unable to continue participating.
Lil Durk, whose legal name is Durk Banks, is facing federal charges stemming from an alleged 2022 murder-for-hire plot targeting rapper Quando Rondo, whose real name is Tyquian Bowman.
Prosecutors allege that Durk financed and helped organize an attempt to kill Bowman in retaliation for the 2020 death of Durk’s close friend and fellow rapper King Von. The Los Angeles attack failed to kill Bowman but resulted in the death of his cousin, Saviay’a “Lul Pab” Robinson.
Durk has pleaded not guilty. His defense team maintains that he was not responsible for planning the attack and has challenged the government’s version of events.
The juror’s accident has no reported connection to Lil Durk, the defendants or the allegations in the case. It appears to have been an unrelated emergency that required the court to use its alternate-juror procedure.
With the replacement now seated, the closely watched trial is continuing as prosecutors and defense attorneys battle over evidence that could determine the Grammy-winning rapper’s future.
