Meet Millicent Amankwah Yeboah: The 34-Year-Old Sunyani West MP Now in the Spotlight as Mahama Ayariga’s Wife

Email 97

At just 34 years old, Millicent Yeboah Amankwah has already established herself as one of the notable young women in Ghana’s Ninth Parliament. Now, the Sunyani West legislator is attracting even greater national attention following the public confirmation that she is married to veteran politician and Bawku Central MP Mahama Ayariga.

Born on July 22, 1992, and hailing from Odumasi-Sunyani in the Bono Region, Yeboah Amankwah represents the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Sunyani West. Her journey to Parliament combines education, business experience, political determination and a willingness to challenge an established political order.

From the classroom to public service

Her educational journey began at St. Mary Preparatory School before she attended Notre Dame Girls Senior High School. She later graduated from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2016.

She subsequently expanded her academic credentials internationally, earning a Graduate Diploma in Law from the University of Law in the United Kingdom in 2022.

Before entering Parliament, Yeboah Amankwah also built private-sector experience. Parliamentary records list her as having served as Managing Director of MEA Connect Consultants and as Bono Regional Branch Manager for Verna Mineral Water.

The election victory that changed everything

Her political breakthrough arrived during Ghana’s 2024 general election.

Running on the NDC ticket, Yeboah Amankwah defeated incumbent Sunyani West MP Ignatius Baffour Awuah, polling 26,828 votes, representing 57.64%, compared with Baffour Awuah’s 19,715 votes.

The victory sent her to Parliament for the first time in January 2025 and positioned her among a new generation of female politicians seeking greater influence in Ghanaian public life.

Inside Parliament, she currently serves on the Budget Committee as well as the Employment, Labour Relations and Pensions Committee, giving her responsibilities that extend beyond constituency representation.

The marriage revelation that surprised Ghana

Despite both being prominent members of the NDC, Yeboah Amankwah’s marriage to Mahama Ayariga had largely remained outside the national political conversation.

That changed dramatically on August 27, 2026, during Ayariga’s vetting as Minister-designate for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.

When members of Ayariga’s family were being acknowledged, attention eventually turned to Yeboah Amankwah, who was seated behind him. She was publicly introduced as his spouse, while Ayariga himself referred to having recently married his “lovely wife.”

The moment immediately sparked interest because Ghana now has a married couple serving simultaneously as MPs—Ayariga representing Bawku Central and Yeboah Amankwah representing Sunyani West.

Yet Millicent Yeboah Amankwah’s story stretches far beyond being the wife of an influential politician.

At 34, she has already defeated an incumbent to enter Parliament, developed a professional career outside politics and earned legal and university qualifications in Ghana and abroad.

Her newly public marriage may have pushed her name further into the spotlight, but her political journey suggests she is building an identity and a career very much of her own.
