A surprising personal revelation during Mahama Ayariga’s ministerial vetting has captured attention across Ghana after Sunyani West MP Millicent Amankwah Yeboah was publicly confirmed as his wife.
The revelation came on Thursday, August 27, 2026, when Ayariga appeared before Parliament’s Appointments Committee for vetting as Minister-designate for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.
During the proceedings, Committee Chairman and First Deputy Speaker Bernard Ahiafor acknowledged some members of Ayariga’s family who had accompanied him, including his father-in-law. Ayariga then lightheartedly pointed out that the chairman had introduced his father-in-law but had not introduced his daughter.
That prompted Ahiafor to formally acknowledge Millicent Amankwah Yeboah, the Member of Parliament for Sunyani West, as Ayariga’s spouse. The moment reportedly drew smiles and applause inside the vetting room.
Ayariga also referred to his recent marriage during the proceedings, describing Yeboah affectionately as his wife and bringing an unexpectedly personal moment into the otherwise serious parliamentary exercise.
The confirmation has attracted considerable public interest because both husband and wife currently serve as Members of Parliament.

Yeboah, 34, represents Sunyani West in Ghana’s Ninth Parliament. She won the parliamentary seat during the 2024 general election, defeating former MP Ignatius Baffour-Awuah. She has since become one of the younger lawmakers making her mark in Ghanaian politics.
Ayariga, meanwhile, represents Bawku Central and has served as Majority Leader before his latest nomination to join President John Dramani Mahama’s government as a minister.
Although videos and public appearances involving the pair had previously fueled speculation about their relationship, Thursday’s parliamentary vetting provided clear public confirmation that the two lawmakers are married.
What began as a routine ministerial vetting therefore produced one of the day’s biggest surprises, placing Ghana’s newly confirmed parliamentary power couple firmly in the public spotlight.
