The federal murder-for-hire trial of Lil Durk has taken one of its most dramatic turns yet after former OTF associate Kacey “OTF Jam” Hester stepped into the witness box and delivered testimony directly linking the Chicago rapper to the alleged plot targeting Quando Rondo.
Hester, who is cooperating with federal prosecutors, told jurors that Durk was allegedly involved in planning the August 2022 attack in Los Angeles that prosecutors say was intended for Quando Rondo but instead resulted in the death of his cousin, Saviay’a “Lul Pab” Robinson.
During his testimony, Hester described his longtime relationship with Durk, saying the two had known each other since their teenage years. He recalled Durk supporting him financially while he was incarcerated and remaining in contact with him throughout his time in prison.
But Hester’s testimony became significantly more serious when he began describing events leading up to the 2022 shooting.
According to Hester, Durk was upset following the November 2020 killing of his close friend and fellow rapper King Von, particularly as people allegedly mocked him online over the lack of retaliation. Hester claimed Durk made comments suggesting anyone who encountered Quando Rondo or Lul Timm would be financially taken care of if they acted against them.
Hester further testified that he traveled to California after receiving a call indicating he was needed. He alleged that while waiting with others, a discussion took place about killing Quando Rondo and that Durk could be heard during communications surrounding the alleged mission.
Prosecutors are using Hester’s testimony as part of their effort to prove that Durk orchestrated a revenge plot following King Von’s death.
The defense, however, is expected to aggressively challenge Hester’s credibility, particularly because he has admitted his own involvement in serious crimes and is cooperating with authorities. Lil Durk, whose legal name is Durk Banks, has pleaded not guilty and maintains his innocence.
Hester’s appearance represents a critical moment in the closely watched trial because prosecutors now have a witness claiming firsthand knowledge of conversations and events surrounding the alleged plot.
With his testimony continuing and cross-examination looming, the courtroom battle over whether jurors believe OTF Jam could become one of the defining moments of Lil Durk’s fight for freedom.
