Ghanaian businessman Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, has reportedly been rushed to the Police Hospital under circumstances that remain unclear.
The development was disclosed by his lawyer, private legal practitioner Oliver Barker-Vormawor, in a post shared on X on Wednesday, July 8, 2026.
According to the lawyer, he learned about his client’s hospitalization through sources at the Police Hospital rather than through an official communication from the authorities holding him.
“I have just found out from sources at the Police Hospital that Abu Trica has been rushed to the hospital,” Barker-Vormawor wrote.
The lawyer also expressed serious concern over the legal team’s continued inability to meet Abu Trica, claiming that repeated requests for access have not been approved.
“It has been over a week; we haven’t been allowed access to Abu Trica as lawyers, and our request to meet him has not been granted,” he stated.
Barker-Vormawor further claimed that the legal team had not been properly informed about where Abu Trica was being held before news of his hospitalization emerged.
The lawyer warned that the defence team could pursue further legal action, including filing a habeas corpus application, should authorities continue to prevent Abu Trica from accessing legal representation.
Growing Concerns Over Abu Trica’s Condition
The reported hospitalization has sparked fresh concerns about Abu Trica’s health, safety and treatment while in state custody.
However, the exact medical condition that led to him being rushed to the hospital has not yet been officially disclosed. Authorities have also not publicly responded to the lawyer’s allegations concerning the denial of access to his client.
Abu Trica is currently fighting extradition to the United States over allegations linking him to an alleged multimillion-dollar romance fraud and wire-fraud scheme.
The allegations against him remain subject to ongoing legal proceedings, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a competent court.
