A peaceful Saturday afternoon turned into a scene of horror after a gunman opened fire near a newly opened In-N-Out Burger restaurant in Twin Falls, Idaho, killing three people and injuring several others.

The deadly attack occurred at about 2:29 p.m. on August 1, 2026, at the restaurant on Blue Lakes Boulevard North. Customers and employees reportedly ran for safety as gunshots rang out across the restaurant and the surrounding shopping area.

Police confirmed that three victims were killed, while the suspected attacker was also found dead near the scene. At least seven other people were injured, with some reportedly in critical condition. Authorities said there was no longer an active threat to the public following a massive response from local police, state officers and the FBI.

In-N-Out president Lynsi Snyder confirmed that one of the victims was a female employee who had been serving customers when the shooting began. The company expressed heartbreak over the employee’s death and said it would support the families affected by the tragedy.

Witnesses described a terrifying and chaotic scene as people hid inside the restaurant, fled through the drive-thru area and took cover behind vehicles. Police Chief Matthew Hicks said hundreds of people may have been in the busy commercial district when the violence erupted.

Investigators have not publicly identified the gunman or disclosed what may have motivated the attack. The names of the victims were also being withheld while authorities worked to notify their families.

The restaurant had reportedly opened only days before the tragedy and had quickly become a popular destination for residents.

As investigators gather surveillance footage and interview witnesses, the Twin Falls community is mourning those whose lives were suddenly taken in what should have been an ordinary afternoon meal.
