A deadly shooting triggered a massive law enforcement response in downtown Minneapolis on Wednesday, September 2, leaving at least one person dead and six others wounded, including two Minneapolis police officers.

The suspected shooter is also dead, according to CBS Minnesota, as authorities continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the violent incident near 15 East Grant Street, close to the Minneapolis Convention Center.

Gunfire reportedly erupted Wednesday afternoon around an apartment complex, sending police officers, SWAT teams, ambulances and multiple law enforcement agencies racing to the area.

Officials with Hennepin Healthcare said seven patients connected to the shooting were transported to the hospital, with one later confirmed dead. Two Minneapolis police officers were among those wounded.

FOX 9 reported that one officer was shot in the leg while another suffered a gunshot wound to the stomach. A law enforcement official told CBS Minnesota that the two officers were expected to survive, although authorities had not immediately released detailed information about their conditions.

Witnesses described a terrifying scene as gunfire rang out and heavily armed officers surrounded the apartment building. Police urged residents and motorists to stay away from a large section of downtown so emergency crews could safely respond.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz said state public safety officials were assisting local authorities, while FBI Director Kash Patel said federal resources were available to support the investigation.

Authorities have not yet publicly identified the suspected shooter or disclosed a possible motive.

The shooting remains an active and developing investigation, with officials expected to release additional information about the victims and what led to the deadly violence.
