A tense confrontation involving Davido’s security team and suspected hoodlums in Osogbo, Osun State, ended in tragedy after a 60-year-old man was shot dead, according to police.

The victim, identified as Tajudeen Yusuf, was killed on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, following unrest near the palace of the Ataoja of Osogbo, where Nigerian Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, had accompanied Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke.

Police said preliminary investigations indicate that a man identified as Adebayo Taoreed, also known as “Small Rugged,” allegedly attempted to gain access to Davido but was prevented by members of the singer’s security team.

The confrontation reportedly attracted other suspected gang members, who allegedly blocked the palace entrance and temporarily obstructed the governor’s convoy.

According to the Osun State Police Command, the suspected gang members later left the area. Police allege that while departing, they encountered Yusuf in the Itaolokan area of Osogbo and shot him.

Officers responding to the scene reportedly found the 60-year-old lying in a pool of blood. He was rushed to the University Teaching Hospital in Osogbo for emergency treatment but was pronounced dead by doctors.

The incident followed Governor Adeleke’s visit to the traditional ruler after receiving his certificate of return from the Independent National Electoral Commission following the August 15 governorship election. Davido had accompanied his uncle during the outing.

The Osun State Police Command has now launched a full-scale investigation and says efforts are underway to identify and arrest those responsible for Yusuf’s death.

Authorities have urged residents to remain calm and provide police with any useful information.

While the confrontation involved Davido’s security personnel, police have not accused the singer or his security team of shooting Yusuf. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to establish the complete circumstances surrounding the deadly violence.
