The Osun State Police Command has revealed that Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Davido was allegedly the target of the violent confrontation that disrupted Governor Ademola Adeleke’s convoy in Osogbo on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.
The incident unfolded around the palace of the Ataoja of Osogbo, shortly after Governor Adeleke visited the traditional ruler following the presentation of his Certificate of Return by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
According to police, preliminary investigations indicate that a suspected gang member identified as Adebayo Taoreed, popularly known as “Small Rugged,” allegedly attempted to get close to Davido but was stopped by the singer’s security personnel.
Police said the confrontation quickly escalated after other suspected gang members reportedly gathered in the area, temporarily blocking the entrance to the palace and obstructing the movement of Governor Adeleke’s convoy.
The situation reportedly descended into chaos, with gunfire heard around the area as security personnel responded. Residents and traders were forced to seek safety as the disturbance unfolded.
Osun Police spokesperson DSP Abiodun Ojelabi said preliminary findings suggested that suspected members of the Eye Confraternity were allegedly trying to reach Davido during the incident.
The violence later took a deadly turn.

Police confirmed that 60-year-old Tajudeen Yusuf was shot in the Itaolokan area of Osogbo after the suspected gang members reportedly left the palace vicinity. Officers rushed Yusuf to the University Teaching Hospital in Osogbo, but he was pronounced dead.
The Osun State Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation and says efforts are underway to identify, locate and arrest those responsible for the violence and Yusuf’s death.
Authorities have urged residents with useful information to assist investigators while warning members of the public against taking the law into their own hands.
The latest police disclosure significantly shifts attention from Governor Adeleke himself, with investigators saying early evidence indicates that Davido was the apparent focus of the confrontation.
The investigation remains ongoing, and police have said further updates will be provided as more facts emerge.
