A disturbing video circulating online has captured the dramatic moment New York Police Department officers opened fire on a woman reportedly armed with knives in the heart of Times Square, Manhattan, sending shockwaves through one of New York City’s busiest tourist destinations.

The police-involved shooting unfolded on Monday afternoon, August 31, 2026, around the Times Square area near Seventh Avenue. According to preliminary reports, officers responded following a radio call about a “person with a knife.”

Law enforcement sources said the woman had allegedly stabbed two people before she was confronted by NYPD officers. A witness at the scene told CBS New York that he saw the woman carrying two knives as police repeatedly ordered her to drop the weapons. Gunshots were reportedly heard moments later.
