Country music legend Dolly Parton is set to receive one of Tennessee’s biggest tributes, with plans underway to name Nashville International Airport in honor of the late global superstar.
Tennessee Governor Bill Lee and Nashville International Airport announced their intention to honor Parton by placing her name on the major transportation gateway serving Music City.
The proposal comes following the death of the beloved singer, songwriter, actress and philanthropist at age 80. Parton, a Tennessee native, became one of the most recognizable figures in entertainment history while proudly carrying her home state’s identity around the world.
Governor Lee described Parton’s life as deeply connected to Tennessee, saying Nashville’s airport would be a fitting place to preserve the legacy of a woman whose music, generosity and kindness touched millions.

Support for renaming the airport has grown dramatically, with an online petition attracting more than 150,000 signatures.
Parton’s representatives have also expressed appreciation for the enormous public support surrounding the proposal and are reportedly open to continuing discussions about the tribute.
However, the name change is not yet officially finalized.
The Metro Nashville Airport Authority is expected to consider the proposal and its existing naming policy during a meeting scheduled for September 17. Current policy presents an obstacle because it generally prevents airport properties from being named after someone who has been deceased for less than two years.
If approved, the change would give travelers arriving in Music City an immediate reminder of one of Tennessee’s greatest cultural exports.
