Four young people have been convicted in connection with the heartbreaking unaliving of 18-year-old Ghanaian teenager Michael Ababio, who was fatally attacked near a library in Coventry, United Kingdom.

Michael was attacked on Broad Street near Foleshill Library on the evening of February 22, 2026. He suffered serious stab wounds and was transported to hospital but sadly died the following morning. Another 19-year-old man was also stabbed during the incident but survived.

Following investigations and proceedings at Warwick Crown Court, Ismail Nabeel, 18, was found guilty of murder and wounding with intent. Nabeel had previously admitted manslaughter, but the murder case against him proceeded to trial.

A 17-year-old, whose identity is protected because of his age, had already pleaded guilty to murder. Mahad Mohammed, 19, and Shakeel Ahmed, 18, pleaded guilty to manslaughter. The three also admitted offences relating to the stabbing of Michael’s 19-year-old friend.

Prosecutors told the court that Michael and his friend were pursued after an earlier confrontation. CCTV footage presented during the case showed members of the group chasing the pair, with Michael eventually being cornered and stabbed three times.

Police said some members of the group attempted to avoid arrest following the deadly attack, with one person even travelling to Pakistan before authorities were able to secure the prosecutions.

Michael’s death left his family devastated. In an emotional tribute released after the tragedy, his twin brother described Michael as more than a sibling and said the family would never be the same without him.

All four remain in custody and are expected to be sentenced at a later date.
