Ghanaian football star Antoine Semenyo has written his name into the history books after becoming the first Ghanaian player ever selected for the PFA Premier League Team of the Year.
The Manchester City forward earned his place in the prestigious 2025/26 best XI following a remarkable Premier League campaign that saw him shine for both AFC Bournemouth and Manchester City. His historic selection was announced at the 2026 PFA Awards on Tuesday, August 25.
Semenyo’s achievement is particularly significant because the PFA Team of the Year is voted for by professional footballers, meaning his performances were recognized by the players who competed against him throughout the season.
The 26-year-old began the campaign at Bournemouth before completing a major January transfer to Manchester City. Despite changing clubs midway through the season, Semenyo maintained his impressive form and finished the Premier League campaign with 17 goals, establishing himself among the division’s most dangerous attacking players.
His performances earned him a place in a star-studded attacking trio alongside Manchester City teammate Erling Haaland and Brentford striker Igor Thiago.
Semenyo was one of four Manchester City players included in the PFA XI, joining Nico O’Reilly, Rayan Cherki and Haaland. Arsenal also had a strong presence, with David Raya, Gabriel Magalhães, William Saliba, Jurriën Timber and Declan Rice all making the team, while Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes completed the midfield.
For Ghana, Semenyo’s inclusion represents another proud milestone in the country’s rich football history. Several Ghanaian stars have enjoyed successful careers in England’s top flight, but none had previously secured a place in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year.
The historic recognition caps an extraordinary period for the Black Stars attacker and further underlines his growing reputation among Europe’s elite players.
