Former Hollywood film producer Harvey Weinstein has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after being convicted of sexually assaulting a former television production assistant, marking another significant chapter in the legal downfall of one of the entertainment industry’s most influential figures.
The 74-year-old former movie mogul received the sentence on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at a Manhattan court in New York, following his conviction for a sexual assault committed against Miriam Haley in 2006.
Weinstein, who once commanded enormous influence in Hollywood, was found guilty in June 2025 of a first-degree criminal sexual act involving Haley at his Manhattan apartment. The latest sentence follows years of courtroom proceedings, appeals and retrials.
Emotional Courtroom Testimony
During the sentencing hearing, Haley described how the assault had affected her confidence, personal security and emotional well-being.
Manhattan Judge Curtis Farber handed down the 15-year sentence after prosecutors requested 20 years in prison, while Weinstein’s legal team sought a nine-year term.
Weinstein apologized for the pain Haley had experienced but maintained that he had never sexually assaulted anyone. His lawyers confirmed plans to appeal the conviction and sentence.
From Hollywood Powerhouse to Prison
Weinstein was originally sentenced to 23 years in prison in 2020 after being convicted of sexual assault and rape.
However, New York’s highest court overturned that conviction in 2024, ruling that testimony concerning allegations outside the charges had unfairly prejudiced the original trial.
A retrial in 2025 resulted in another conviction involving Haley, paving the way for Wednesday’s sentencing.
The former producer is also awaiting resentencing in California, where he was previously handed a 16-year prison sentence following a separate rape conviction.
Once associated with major Hollywood productions, Weinstein became a central figure in the global #MeToo movement after allegations of sexual misconduct against him emerged publicly in 2017.
His latest prison sentence marks another chapter in a legal battle that has continued for nearly a decade.
