Ilhan Omar Under Fresh Scrutiny as Federal Investigators Interview Her Sister in Expanding Immigration Fraud Probe

Email 4

Federal investigators have reportedly questioned the sister of Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, marking another significant development in an ongoing investigation into allegations surrounding the Minnesota lawmaker’s immigration and citizenship records.

According to reports published on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, Omar’s older sister, Sahra Noor, was interviewed by federal authorities as investigators intensified their examination of possible irregularities in the congresswoman’s immigration history.

CNN confirmed the interview through a law enforcement source familiar with the investigation, while Fox News reported that Noor voluntarily spoke with investigators last week. The precise questions she faced and the information she provided have not been publicly disclosed.

The development follows a dramatic October 12 search of Omar’s Washington, D.C., residence, where federal agents executed a court-authorized warrant as part of an investigation into suspected immigration fraud and potentially false statements on government documents.

Investigators are reportedly examining whether Omar or her late father provided inaccurate information about her age during the process that led to her obtaining American citizenship in 2000.

Authorities are particularly interested in whether the citizenship paperwork accurately reflected Omar’s age at the time, as immigration procedures can differ for minors and adults.

The investigation has also drawn attention to Omar’s family members, with federal authorities reportedly issuing more than a dozen grand jury subpoenas, including some directed at relatives.

However, the interview with Noor does not establish wrongdoing by either sister, and the allegations under investigation have not been proven in court.

Omar, who arrived in the United States as a Somali refugee before becoming an American citizen, has consistently rejected accusations of immigration fraud.

Her legal representatives have challenged the investigation, describing the search of her home as unjustified and politically motivated.

The controversy has generated considerable political debate, particularly because the investigation is unfolding just weeks before the November 2026 midterm elections.

Critics have questioned whether the Justice Department’s actions are politically motivated, while federal authorities maintain that the search complied with legal requirements.

With investigators now speaking directly to Omar’s relatives, attention is turning to whether the inquiry will produce sufficient evidence for prosecutors to pursue charges.

For now, the congresswoman continues to deny wrongdoing as the federal investigation remains ongoing.
