Ghanaian star Mohammed Kudus has finally returned to competitive football after spending nearly eight months on the sidelines, making his long-awaited comeback during Tottenham Hotspur’s 2-0 home defeat to Newcastle United on Saturday.
The 26-year-old was introduced in the 69th minute, replacing Mathys Tel at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as Spurs searched desperately for a way back into the Premier League encounter.
It marked Kudus’ first competitive appearance since January 4, 2026, when he featured against Sunderland before an injury brought his impressive debut Tottenham campaign to an abrupt halt. Tottenham had confirmed before Saturday’s game that the Ghanaian had been sidelined since the beginning of the year.
Long Injury Nightmare Finally Ends
Kudus’ return will be welcomed enthusiastically by both Tottenham and Ghana supporters following months of rehabilitation and uncertainty.
Although he could not inspire Spurs to a comeback against Newcastle, simply seeing the Black Stars attacker back on the pitch represented a major milestone in his recovery.
Newcastle had already taken control before Kudus entered the action.
Anthony Elanga broke the deadlock in the 62nd minute, finding the net off the post before Yoane Wissa doubled Newcastle’s advantage with an acrobatic finish from a corner in the 72nd minute.
Tottenham created opportunities throughout the contest but failed to convert them, eventually suffering their second consecutive Premier League defeat of the new season.
Huge Boost for Ghana
For Ghanaian football fans, however, Kudus’ comeback provides something positive to celebrate.
The versatile attacker has established himself as one of Ghana’s biggest football stars, and his extended absence had been a major blow.
After almost eight months without competitive action, Tottenham are expected to carefully manage his minutes as he works toward regaining full match fitness.
Saturday’s result may have been disappointing for Spurs, but for Kudus personally, the occasion represented the beginning of an important new chapter.
Mohammed Kudus is finally back playing football, and Ghanaian fans will now be hoping their star man can remain healthy and rediscover the form that made him such an exciting presence in the Premier League.
