The legal confrontation between Ghana’s Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) and Manhyia South Member of Parliament Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah has taken a major turn after an Accra High Court issued a warrant authorising his arrest.
The court order, granted on September 30, 2026, gives EOCO judicial authority to arrest the lawmaker as part of an ongoing investigation. The warrant also authorises investigators to search for and seize documents considered relevant to the probe.
According to EOCO’s application, investigators told the court that they had exhausted reasonable efforts to secure Baffour Awuah’s voluntary attendance. The agency also expressed concern that documents connected to its investigation could potentially be concealed, altered or destroyed.
The dramatic development comes just one week after EOCO officers attempted to take the MP into custody outside the Accra High Court on September 23.
EOCO later said Baffour Awuah had been invited twice in February 2026 to assist with an ongoing investigation but did not personally honour those invitations. The agency said the attempted arrest formed part of its efforts to secure his attendance.
However, the Manhyia South MP has disputed EOCO’s version of events.
Baffour Awuah says the investigation involves SIC Life Savings and Loans Company, which was previously represented by his former law firm, Sarkodie Baffour Awuah & Partners. He maintains that representatives of the firm appeared before EOCO on March 4, March 18 and April 30 and supplied information requested by investigators.
He previously described the September 23 attempt to take him into custody as unlawful, saying officials failed to produce identification or an arrest warrant when he requested them.
EOCO has not publicly disclosed the full scope of its investigation.
With the High Court warrant now issued, the agency has formal judicial authority to proceed with Baffour Awuah’s arrest as the investigation continues.
