The federal trial involving Chicago rapper Lil Durk ended with a dramatic split verdict after his co-defendants Deondre “OTF DeDe” Wilson and David “Browneyez” Lindsey were found guilty on three stalking-related counts, while Durk walked away from the trial acquitted of every charge.
The verdict was delivered Friday in federal court in Los Angeles following three days of jury deliberations and weeks of testimony surrounding the deadly 2022 attack targeting rapper Quando Rondo.
Wilson and Lindsey were convicted on charges connected to conspiracy to commit stalking, stalking Quando Rondo involving a dangerous weapon, and stalking resulting in the death of Saviay’a “Lul Pab” Robinson.
However, the jury did not convict the pair on the murder-for-hire charges, creating a major distinction in the final verdict.
Federal prosecutors alleged that Wilson and Lindsey participated in a group that traveled to California in August 2022 and tracked Quando Rondo before gunmen opened fire on his vehicle near the Beverly Center in Los Angeles.
Quando Rondo survived the attack, but his cousin Robinson was fatally shot.
Prosecutors presented surveillance footage, travel information, messages and testimony from cooperating witnesses during the trial. They argued that Wilson played a significant role in organizing the group involved in the operation and identified Lindsey as one of the men involved in the deadly attack.
Their attorneys challenged the credibility of government witnesses and argued that prosecutors had failed to prove every element of the charges beyond a reasonable doubt.
The jury ultimately reached different conclusions for the three men standing trial.
Lil Durk, whose legal name is Durk Banks, was found not guilty on all charges, while Wilson and Lindsey were convicted on the stalking-related counts.
The verdict marks a stunning conclusion to one of hip-hop’s most closely watched federal trials.
Wilson and Lindsey now face sentencing, with the stalking-related convictions potentially carrying severe federal prison penalties because Robinson’s death resulted from the 2022 attack.
