The private hearing began in September 2024 and concluded in December of that year, but the football world has waited nearly two years for the outcome.
Now, reports published on September 25, 2026, claim that a decision has finally been reached. BBC Sport reported that it understands a judgment has been made, while The Athletic was cited as reporting that City had been found guilty on almost all of the charges. However, the Premier League and Manchester City had not publicly released the full official judgment at the time of the reports, meaning the precise findings and any punishment still require formal confirmation.
Attention has immediately turned to what could happen if serious breaches are officially confirmed.
Possible sanctions discussed throughout the case have ranged from substantial fines and major points deductions to expulsion from the Premier League. Reuters previously reported that the consequences could potentially include demotion, depending on the commission’s findings and resulting disciplinary process.
A severe points deduction could also effectively place City in a relegation battle, while removal from the Premier League would create complicated questions about which division the club would enter next.
For now, however, no confirmed demotion has been announced.
