Behind the explosive performances, packed venues and larger-than-life personality of Ghanaian dancehall superstar Shatta Wale is a team working to keep the Shatta Movement machinery running—and one name increasingly attracting attention is Gifty Nkrumah, popularly known as Mawuena.
Mawuena officially emerged as Shatta Wale’s Road Manager when the award-winning musician announced a major restructuring of his management team in July 2025. The reshuffle assigned specific responsibilities to trusted members of his camp as part of efforts to strengthen the Shatta Movement brand and improve efficiency.
While her striking appearance may easily turn heads whenever she is spotted around the dancehall star, Mawuena occupies a position that carries serious responsibility behind the scenes.
A road manager is typically one of the key figures responsible for helping an artiste navigate the demanding world of concerts, appearances and travel. From coordinating movements and ensuring schedules run smoothly to helping connect different members of an artiste’s touring operation, the job requires organization, patience and the ability to perform under pressure.
For an entertainer like Shatta Wale—whose career involves concerts, public appearances and engagements both in Ghana and internationally—that behind-the-scenes coordination can be crucial.
Mawuena’s appointment formed part of a wider management structure that also named Jawaid Abdallah Sika as General Manager for Bookings and Requests, Daniel Kwesi Kpingbi as Personal Assistant, Solomon Ashong as Regional Coordinator for Merchandising and Sammy Flex in charge of Media and Public Relations.
Sammy Flex explained at the time that many of the people receiving official titles were already around the Shatta Movement and performing different functions. According to him, formally defining their responsibilities was intended to make the team operate more efficiently rather than leaving numerous duties with one person.
That restructuring placed Mawuena in an important position close to one of Ghana’s most recognizable entertainers.
Unlike the superstar standing under the stage lights, road managers often do their most important work away from the spotlight. Their success can be measured by whether the artiste arrives prepared, schedules remain organized and performances proceed with fewer complications.
For Mawuena, the position also places a woman in a significant operational role within one of Ghanaian music’s most talked-about camps.
