Veteran NFL running back Miles Sanders is facing legal trouble after being arrested in Pennsylvania and charged with driving under the influence and careless driving.

According to court records and a criminal complaint, the 29-year-old former Philadelphia Eagles standout was arrested on June 8, 2026, in Churchill Borough, outside Pittsburgh. The charges were filed in August and became public this week.

Police reportedly responded to William Penn Highway after receiving information about a vehicle stopped in the roadway. When officers approached the Lexus, they allegedly discovered Sanders slumped over in the driver’s seat.

Authorities said officers made several attempts to wake him before making contact. The complaint alleges Sanders appeared extremely lethargic and was drifting in and out of consciousness.

After Sanders exited the vehicle, police claimed his eyes appeared glassy and that they detected the smell of alcohol on his breath. Sanders allegedly told officers he had consumed alcohol earlier that day.

Police further alleged that Sanders performed poorly during field sobriety testing and tested positive for alcohol on a portable breath test. Authorities also reported finding a package of suspected marijuana inside the vehicle.

Sanders was subsequently taken into custody and is now facing DUI and careless-driving charges. The allegations have not been proven in court.

His attorney, Phil DiLucente, described the case as a private matter and noted that it had not yet reached the preliminary-hearing stage when contacted by local media.

Sanders is currently an NFL free agent after spending the 2025 season with the Dallas Cowboys. He previously played for the Philadelphia Eagles and Carolina Panthers and earned a Pro Bowl selection following his standout 2022 season.

The legal situation arrives at a sensitive moment in Sanders’ career as the veteran running back remains unsigned ahead of the 2026 NFL season.

His next court proceedings will determine how the case moves forward.
