Golf legend Tiger Woods may have to rethink how he gets around the golf course after reaching a plea agreement in his Florida driving case that resulted in a five-year suspension of his driver’s license.
The 50-year-old, 15-time major champion appeared in a Martin County courtroom on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, where he entered a no-contest plea to reduced charges stemming from a rollover crash in March.
Under the agreement, Woods avoided jail time but was handed a lengthy driving suspension and ordered to pay fines. The most striking moment came when the judge warned Woods that there would be no exceptions to the driving restriction and that driving during the suspension could send him immediately back to jail.
That warning has raised an unusual question for one of the greatest golfers of all time: Does the restriction mean Tiger cannot even drive a golf cart?
TMZ reported that golf carts could potentially fall within the restrictions because Florida law treats golf carts as motor vehicles in certain contexts. Woods has frequently been seen operating carts during practices, appearances and golf-related activities over the years.
The court’s broad warning creates additional uncertainty. According to reports from Wednesday’s hearing, Judge Darren Steele told Woods that if he were to drive “for any reason at all,” he could face immediate jail consequences.
Woods’ legal troubles stem from a March 2026 crash near Jupiter Island, Florida, when his Land Rover clipped another vehicle before overturning. Authorities initially arrested him on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Investigators said Woods showed possible signs of impairment at the scene. Two hydrocodone pills were reportedly found in his possession, although he passed a Breathalyzer test. He refused to provide a urine sample. Prosecutors later reduced the DUI charge after questions arose over whether there was sufficient evidence to prove impairment.
Woods ultimately accepted reduced charges involving reckless driving and refusal to submit to a lawful test.
The five-year suspension represents another major setback for Woods, whose career has already been heavily affected by injuries and previous vehicle accidents.
But for golf fans, the unexpected question is now impossible to ignore.
Tiger Woods may still be able to swing a golf club but getting behind the wheel of a golf cart could be a completely different story for the next five years.
