Ghanaian TikToker Rita Konadu, popularly known on social media as “Mamaone,” has reportedly been arrested over alleged derogatory comments directed at President John Dramani Mahama and First Lady Lordina Mahama.
The 49-year-old content creator was picked up by the Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team in Juaben in the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, July 22, 2026.
Mamaone, who operates the TikTok account @the_onlymamaone1, allegedly published a video containing offensive statements about Ghana’s first couple. The specific remarks attributed to her have not been officially detailed by the authorities.
Following her arrest, arrangements were reportedly made to transport her from the Ashanti Region to Accra for further questioning and possible legal action as investigations continue.
The development has generated intense reactions across social media, with Ghanaians sharply divided over the latest arrest involving online commentary about prominent political figures.
Some social media users believe content creators must be held accountable when their posts allegedly cross the line from political criticism into abuse, threats or defamatory statements. Others have raised concerns about freedom of expression and the possible consequences of using criminal enforcement to address offensive online speech.
As of the time of reporting, no formal criminal charges had been publicly announced against Rita Konadu. The Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team had also not released a detailed statement identifying the particular offences being investigated.
