USMNT Locks Down Mauricio Pochettino Until 2030 After Historic World Cup Run

The United States Soccer Federation has made a major statement about its future by signing head coach Mauricio Pochettino to a new contract that will keep him in charge of the U.S. Men’s National Team through the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

The Argentine tactician’s original agreement was due to expire after the 2026 World Cup, creating uncertainty over whether he would return to European club football. However, U.S. Soccer has now secured his services for another four-year cycle after being impressed by the progress made under his leadership.

Pochettino took control of the USMNT in September 2024 and guided the team through a memorable home World Cup campaign. The United States won its group before beating Bosnia and Herzegovina 2-0 in the Round of 32, securing the country’s first knockout-stage victory at a World Cup since 2002. Their journey eventually ended with a 4-1 defeat to Belgium in the Round of 16.

Despite the painful elimination, the Americans recorded three victories during the tournament—the most wins achieved by the USMNT at a single World Cup. That performance reportedly convinced federation officials that Pochettino had built a strong foundation worth protecting.

Under the new agreement, the former Tottenham Hotspur, Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea manager will have responsibilities extending beyond the senior national team. Pochettino and his coaching staff will also contribute to youth development, coaching education, player pathways and other technical areas within U.S. Soccer.

Financial details of the contract have not been officially disclosed. However, the deal ends speculation surrounding Pochettino’s immediate future and gives him another opportunity to push the United States deeper into football’s biggest tournament.

The pressure will now increase as attention turns toward the 2030 World Cup. After restoring belief and delivering a record-breaking campaign, Pochettino has been handed the responsibility of transforming the USMNT from an improving side into a genuine global contender.
