A video showing the reported luxurious mansion of New Patriotic Party Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has resurfaced online following his 20-year prison sentence.
The footage, which has returned to social media amid intense public discussion over his conviction, reportedly captures a massive palace-like property located at Agric Nzema, a suburb of Kumasi.
The imposing residence features an expansive compound, towering structures, lavish interior spaces and an architectural design that has left many social media users stunned. Reports surrounding the property have previously claimed that the mansion contains numerous rooms and more than 70 air-conditioning units.
Although the footage is not new, its renewed circulation has attracted fresh attention following the dramatic legal downfall of the influential businessman and politician.
On July 20, 2026, an Accra High Court sentenced Chairman Wontumi to 20 years’ imprisonment with hard labour after finding him guilty of facilitating unlicensed mining activities on a concession at Samreboi in the Western Region.
The court also imposed a GH¢120,000 fine on him. Failure to pay the amount would attract an additional three-year prison term, although the court ordered the custodial sentences to run concurrently. Akonta Mining Company Limited was separately fined GH¢180,000.
Chairman Wontumi and the company were convicted on six counts, including facilitating unlicensed mining and assigning mineral rights without the required approval from the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources.
The court also ordered the confiscation of several items seized from the mining concession, including 24 serviceable excavators, four unserviceable excavators, water-pumping machines, firearms and GH¢157,000 in cash.
The resurfaced mansion video has triggered mixed reactions. While some viewers have focused on the breathtaking size and reported value of the property, others have used the footage to reopen discussions about wealth, political power, mining and accountability in Ghana.
Before his conviction, Chairman Wontumi was widely recognised as one of the NPP’s most outspoken regional leaders. He built a strong public image through politics, mining, real estate and media ownership.
However, the sharp contrast between the magnificent Kumasi residence shown in the viral footage and his lengthy prison sentence has made the video one of the most talked-about images surrounding his conviction.
