A tense confrontation unfolded at the Accra High Court on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, when officials reportedly from the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) attempted to take Manhyia South Member of Parliament Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah into custody.
The MP, who is also the lead lawyer representing detained senior nursing officer Salomey Awity Baffoe, was involved in a heated exchange with security personnel shortly after attending a hearing concerning his client’s bail application.

Videos circulating online show a woman who identified herself as an EOCO officer attempting to prevent the MP from entering his Toyota Land Cruiser.
The situation escalated as the lawmaker questioned why he was being asked to accompany the officials.
During the confrontation, a member of his legal team intervened and cleared the way for him to enter his vehicle.
The MP subsequently drove away from the court premises, with another vehicle, reportedly carrying security personnel, following him.
Why Did EOCO Reportedly Target the MP?
According to Citi News, sources close to the lawmaker said the attempted arrest was connected to allegations that he had failed to honour EOCO invitations to assist with investigations into the controversial Ghana Jollof TikTok account.

However, the MP’s associates disputed the claims, insisting that he had not received any invitation from the agency.
They further alleged that the incident was an attempt to silence him because of his public defence of Salomey Baffoe.
Baffoe is facing a charge of abetment of crime in connection with the alleged publication of false news linked to the TikTok account. She has pleaded not guilty.
Her bail hearing was adjourned to Thursday, September 24, after prosecutors requested additional time to respond to the application.
As of September 23, EOCO had not publicly clarified the legal basis for the reported arrest attempt or confirmed whether a formal invitation had been issued to the MP.
