Aliko Dangote Reigns Supreme: Africa’s Richest Man Remains World’s Wealthiest Black Billionaire

Email 6

Nigerian industrial powerhouse Aliko Dangote continues to stand at the summit of Black billionaire wealth, maintaining a massive financial lead built through cement, oil refining, fertilizer and other major businesses across Africa.

According to Forbes’ September 2026 real-time estimate, Dangote’s fortune stood at approximately $31.4 billion, making the 69-year-old businessman Africa’s richest person and placing him among the world’s wealthiest individuals.

His fortune remains significantly larger than those of other prominent Black billionaires tracked by Forbes. American technology entrepreneur David Steward, founder and chairman of World Wide Technology, was estimated at around $12.3 billion, while Vista Equity Partners founder Robert F. Smith stood at approximately $10.9 billion.

From Cement Empire to Energy Giant

Dangote’s journey to extraordinary wealth has been fueled largely by the industrial empire he spent decades building.

He founded and chairs Dangote Cement, Africa’s largest cement producer. Forbes reports that Dangote controls about 85% of the publicly traded company through a holding company. Dangote Cement has the capacity to produce approximately 48.6 million metric tons annually, with operations spanning 10 African countries.

But cement is no longer the only major engine behind his fortune.

The massive Dangote Petroleum Refinery in Nigeria began refining operations in early 2024 following years of construction. The project has transformed the scale of Dangote’s business interests and strengthened his position in Africa’s energy industry. His fertilizer operations have also become another important part of the expanding Dangote industrial network.

An African Business Story With Global Reach

Dangote’s rise is particularly significant because much of his wealth has been created through industries addressing fundamental African needs—from building materials and food production to fertilizer and petroleum refining.

His business career stretches back decades, but his continuing expansion into large-scale manufacturing and energy has pushed his fortune to levels rarely reached by African entrepreneurs.

While billionaire rankings can change quickly as company valuations, currencies and markets fluctuate, Dangote’s current financial advantage remains substantial.

From Nigeria to the global billionaire rankings, Aliko Dangote’s industrial empire continues to keep him firmly at the top of Black billionaire wealth in 2026.
