A routine walk with a pet goat turned into an unforgettable roadside spectacle after Metro Transit Police officers handcuffed a man near Washington, D.C.’s Navy Yard station—while his four-legged companion calmly watched the drama unfold.
Video circulating across social media shows the man being restrained beside a police vehicle as his leashed goat, popularly known as Bob or Lil Bob, stands nearby. A child could also be seen watching the unusual encounter.
The footage quickly attracted hilarious reactions, with viral captions claiming the man had been arrested simply for walking his goat in public.
However, Metro officials have now poured cold water on that version of events.
According to the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, the man was briefly detained because officers were searching for him in connection with an investigation involving another law-enforcement agency. Officials stressed that the police action was unrelated to the goat or any alleged Metro violation. He was reportedly released shortly afterward.
Despite being cleared of responsibility for the chaotic scene, Bob has become the undisputed star of the viral video. The goat was already gaining attention for accompanying its owner around the city and reportedly riding on Metro trains.

Bob’s public adventures could still raise separate questions about local regulations. Metro rules state that only service animals assisting people with disabilities may travel unconfined aboard Metro trains and buses. Other animals are generally expected to remain inside suitable carriers.
Washington, D.C., law also limits the types of animals residents may permanently keep as household pets. Goats may be temporarily permitted for approved activities such as vegetation control, demonstrations, yoga and petting zoos.
Still, authorities have not said Bob caused the detention or that his owner was charged over the goat’s presence.
What looked like the strangest animal arrest in Washington history therefore turned out to be something completely different, but that has not stopped social-media users from declaring Bob the calmest witness ever seen at a police scene.
