Court Halts Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka’s Funeral as Explosive Family Dispute Takes New Legal Turn

The planned funeral and burial of renowned Ghanaian industrialist and religious leader Apostle Professor Emeritus Kwadwo Safo Kantanka have been thrown into uncertainty after an Accra High Court granted a 10-day interim injunction against the arrangements.

The order, issued on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, temporarily restrains former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament Sarah Adwoa Safo from proceeding with funeral and burial activities relating to her late father. The injunction will remain in force while the court considers the issues brought before it.

The funeral rites had reportedly been scheduled for July 30 and 31, 2026. However, the latest court intervention means the planned ceremonies have been placed on hold unless the court gives further directions.

The legal action follows growing disagreements within the Safo family over who has the authority to organise the funeral and how the late Apostle’s final wishes should be implemented.

Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena, Head of the Kantanka Family and Leader of the Kristo Asafo Mission of Ghana, had earlier announced that the family was heading to court after several attempts to resolve the dispute peacefully failed.

According to him, traditional leaders, church elders, family heads and other respected personalities had intervened, but the parties were unable to reach an agreement. He also raised concerns about the implementation of instructions reportedly contained in Apostle Kwadwo Safo’s last will and testament, including matters relating to the custody of his remains.

Sarah Adwoa Safo had earlier maintained that the funeral would proceed as scheduled and reportedly urged her brother not to interfere with the arrangements. However, the interim injunction has now changed the situation and placed the matter firmly before the court.

Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka was the founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission and the Kantanka Group. He earned national recognition for his contributions to religion, technological innovation, manufacturing and Ghana’s industrial development.

The court is expected to consider the substantive issues during the 10-day period and determine the next steps concerning the funeral.

For now, family members, church followers and sympathisers must await further legal direction as the dispute over the final funeral rites of one of Ghana’s most celebrated innovators continues.
