Kantanka Funeral War Deepens: Family Makes Wild Claim Over Why Adwoa Safo Has Not Released Father’s Body

The dispute surrounding the burial of celebrated Ghanaian industrialist and religious leader Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka has taken another dramatic turn after some family members levelled serious allegations against his daughter, Sarah Adwoa Safo.

At a press conference held on Monday, July 27, 2026, the family accused the former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament of withholding custody of their late father’s remains. They claimed that some relatives, including Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena, had not been allowed to view the body since the industrialist’s passing.

An unnamed family representative reportedly questioned why the remains had not been formally handed over after several months. He suggested that the family could not understand Adwoa Safo’s alleged refusal and speculated that she might want the body for an undisclosed purpose. No evidence was publicly presented to support that speculation.

The family’s concerns form part of a wider disagreement over the implementation of Apostle Safo’s last will and testament. Akofena maintains that the will contains instructions concerning who should have custody of the remains and how the burial should be conducted.

He has consequently announced the suspension of the funeral scheduled for July 30, insisting that the ceremony cannot proceed until the courts interpret and enforce the late industrialist’s wishes. The family has instructed Kwame Gyan and Associates to begin legal action after reconciliation efforts reportedly failed.

Adwoa Safo has strongly rejected suggestions that she unlawfully took possession of her father’s body. She explained that she was present during his final moments because he had personally requested to see her.

“I didn’t steal the body,” she stated while insisting that she was only fulfilling her father’s dying wish to receive a dignified burial. She maintains that the ceremony will proceed at Gomoa Mpota on July 30 despite her brother’s directive.

Adwoa Safo also says extensive preparations have already been completed and that key traditional and national figures were consulted over the funeral arrangements.

What should have been a solemn farewell to one of Ghana’s most celebrated inventors has now become a bitter family, legal and leadership confrontation.

With both camps refusing to retreat, the court may ultimately determine who controls the remains and how Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka will finally be laid to rest.
