Adwoa Safo Makes Dramatic Political Comeback! Former MP Declares Intention to Reclaim Dome-Kwabenya Parliamentary Seat in 2028

Former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has made a surprising political comeback announcement, declaring her intention to contest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary primaries ahead of Ghana’s 2028 general elections.

The former Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection announced her decision in a statement dated Thursday, October 22, 2026, signaling her determination to return to Parliament after losing her party’s parliamentary ticket ahead of the 2024 elections.

Her announcement comes after earlier indications that she would pursue political opportunities outside the Dome-Kwabenya constituency.

Adwoa Safo Makes U-Turn on Political Future

Explaining her decision, Adwoa Safo revealed that consultations with party executives, political stakeholders and personal reflection influenced her change of direction.

She emphasized that her connection with Dome-Kwabenya remains strong despite her absence from Parliament.

According to the former lawmaker, representing the interests of the constituency’s more than 200,000 residents remains a responsibility she considers important.

Adwoa Safo, who represented Dome-Kwabenya for 12 years, believes her experience and relationship with constituents position her to contribute further to the area’s development.

She also acknowledged that although progress was made during her tenure, significant developmental challenges remain.

Can Adwoa Safo Reclaim Dome-Kwabenya from the NDC?

Her announcement sets the stage for a potentially intense political battle within the NPP as the party prepares to select its parliamentary candidates for the 2028 elections.

Adwoa Safo previously lost the NPP parliamentary primary to Mike Oquaye Jr., who subsequently lost the constituency to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Faustina Elikplim Akurugu, in the 2024 general elections.

The constituency, previously considered an NPP stronghold, is currently represented by Akurugu, making the upcoming parliamentary contest particularly significant.

A Political Comeback Worth Watching

Adwoa Safo has appealed for unity and constructive engagement among party members as she prepares for another attempt to secure the parliamentary ticket.

However, her declaration does not automatically make her the NPP candidate. She must first successfully navigate the party’s internal selection process.

For now, her return to the Dome-Kwabenya political race has introduced a new dimension to the constituency’s preparations for 2028.
