The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has broken its silence over the dramatic attempted arrest of Manhyia South Member of Parliament Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, revealing that the lawmaker allegedly ignored two previous invitations to assist with an ongoing investigation.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, EOCO explained that its officers attempted to arrest the MP at the Accra High Court after he reportedly failed to honour invitations sent to him in February 2026.

EOCO Explains Why Officers Attempted to Arrest MP

According to the anti-crime agency, its officers were carrying out their lawful duties when they approached the legislator outside the court premises.

EOCO maintained that the attempted arrest was intended to secure Baffour Awuah’s attendance as part of an ongoing investigation.

However, the situation escalated into a heated confrontation, prompting officers to abandon the arrest after assessing the potential danger to public safety.

The agency further disclosed that it had identified two individuals who allegedly intervened and facilitated the MP’s departure from the scene. Their conduct is being examined to determine whether further action is necessary.

Baffour Awuah Denies Receiving Invitations

The MP, who represents detained nurse Salomey Baffoe Awiti in the Ghana Jollof TikTok case, has disputed EOCO’s account.

Speaking to journalists at Parliament, Baffour Awuah claimed that a woman who approached him at the High Court failed to provide proof of her identity as an EOCO officer or produce an arrest warrant when he requested one.

He explained that he offered to follow the officer to EOCO in his own vehicle but alleged that she insisted on forcibly taking him in another vehicle.

The lawmaker maintained that he drove away because he feared for his personal safety.

EOCO Insists Investigation Will Continue

EOCO has acknowledged the constitutional privileges and immunities enjoyed by Members of Parliament but stressed that parliamentary membership does not automatically prevent a lawful investigation.

The agency confirmed that the investigation remains active and that it will review available video footage and the circumstances surrounding the confrontation before determining its next course of action.

The incident has generated widespread public attention, with questions surrounding the disputed invitations, the attempted arrest and the agency’s next steps.

For now, the MP remains free, while EOCO maintains that its investigation is far from over.
