Manhyia South Member of Parliament Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah has reported himself to the Economic and Organised Crime Office, EOCO, following a High Court warrant authorising his arrest.
The lawmaker appeared at EOCO’s office on Thursday, October 1, 2026, accompanied by his lawyer, Samuel Atta Kyea, and other political figures. His appearance came just a day after the High Court granted EOCO permission to arrest him in connection with an ongoing financial investigation.
The court issued the warrant on September 30 after EOCO told the court that its previous attempts to secure Baffour Awuah’s voluntary attendance for questioning had been unsuccessful. The court also authorised EOCO to search for and seize documents considered relevant to the investigation.
The matter relates to alleged financial transactions involving SIC Life Savings & Loans Company Limited.
Deputy Attorney-General Dr. Justice Srem-Sai has said investigators are examining allegations involving suspected unauthorised financial transactions, possible financial loss, dissipation of public funds and money laundering. The claims remain allegations and have not been determined by a court.
The latest development follows an earlier attempt by EOCO officers to take the MP into custody at the Accra High Court on September 23.
Baffour Awuah disputed EOCO’s account of that encounter, saying he became suspicious because a person who approached him could not initially provide identification or an arrest warrant. He also maintained that his former law firm had previously sent a representative to EOCO to provide information relating to the matter.
With the MP now voluntarily appearing before EOCO, attention is expected to turn to what investigators do next and whether the inquiry will result in any formal charges.
For now, Baffour Awuah remains under investigation, and no court has found him guilty of wrongdoing.
