FIFA HAMMERS Leandro Paredes With Massive 10-Game Ban After Explosive World Cup Final Chaos

Email 17

Argentina midfielder Leandro Paredes has been hit with a staggering 10-match international suspension by FIFA following the heated scenes that erupted after the 2026 FIFA World Cup final against Spain.

FIFA confirmed the punishment after completing disciplinary proceedings into the confrontation that followed Argentina’s heartbreaking 1-0 extra-time defeat to Spain in the final at New York New Jersey Stadium on July 19.

Paredes was at the center of the post-match chaos and faced disciplinary charges over his involvement in confrontations with Spanish players. FIFA ultimately handed the Argentine star a 10-game suspension and a $90,000 fine, making his punishment one of the most severe issued following the tournament.

The sanctions did not stop with Paredes.

Argentina teammate Nahuel Molina received a seven-match suspension and a $90,000 fine, while Thiago Almada was banned for one game and fined $30,000. Argentina staff member Roberto Ayala received a three-match suspension and $30,000 fine. Spain midfielder Gavi was also handed a one-match ban and fined $30,000 for his role in the incident.

According to FIFA, the suspensions will carry over to the players’ upcoming international matches, meaning Paredes could be absent from Argentina duty for a significant period.

The Argentine Football Association was separately fined $321,000 over several disciplinary breaches connected to the World Cup, while additional restrictions were imposed concerning future home matches. Argentina has indicated it intends to challenge the punishments.

The dramatic sanctions add another painful chapter to Argentina’s World Cup disappointment. After falling just short of defending their crown on the field, the fallout from the final has now delivered a major blow off it.

For Paredes in particular, a 10-match FIFA ban means the fiery scenes following the biggest match in world football will continue to have consequences long after the final whistle.
