Chicago rap superstar Lil Durk remains in federal custody despite being found not guilty on all counts in his high-profile murder-for-hire trial, as another serious federal case continues to hang over his future.

The Grammy-winning rapper, whose real name is Durk Banks, scored a massive courtroom victory Friday when a Los Angeles federal jury cleared him of all five charges connected to the alleged 2022 murder-for-hire plot targeting rapper Quando Rondo.

The jury reached its decision after three days of deliberations, rejecting prosecutors’ argument that Durk orchestrated and financed the attack that ultimately killed Quando Rondo’s cousin, Saviay’a “Lul Pab” Robinson.

However, the celebration does not yet mean Durk is walking out of federal custody.

The rapper still faces separate racketeering-related charges that were removed from the murder-for-hire trial earlier this year. A federal judge agreed to separate those allegations after Durk’s attorneys argued that prosecutors introduced sweeping new accusations too close to the original trial date.

The separate case includes a murder-in-aid-of-racketeering charge and allegations involving other violent incidents prosecutors have attempted to connect to Durk.

Reports have pointed to October 5 for the next phase of his federal legal battle, although the precise trial schedule remains subject to confirmation and possible court changes.

Durk has remained in federal custody since his October 2024 arrest. Despite repeatedly seeking release, he was previously denied bond while prosecutors argued that he presented flight and public-safety concerns.

Friday’s acquittal dramatically changes one part of Durk’s legal situation, but it does not completely end his battle with federal prosecutors.

For his supporters, the murder-for-hire verdict delivered the outcome they had been demanding: not guilty on every count.

But for Lil Durk, the fight for his freedom may not be over yet.
