Ghana’s political community has been hit by another loss following the passing of former Minister for Food and Agriculture, Ibrahim Adam, a veteran politician and respected figure in the country’s agricultural sector.

News of Adam’s death emerged on Sunday, August 30, 2026, with Sagnarigu Member of Parliament Atta Issah among those paying tribute to the former minister. Details surrounding the circumstances of his death have not yet been publicly disclosed.

Ibrahim Adam built a distinguished career that combined agriculture, politics and public service. An animal scientist by training, he served as Agriculture Secretary before later becoming Minister for Food and Agriculture during the administration of former President Jerry John Rawlings.

His political journey also took him to Parliament, where he represented the Choggu/Tishigu Constituency from 1997 to 2001. His years in public office made him one of the notable political figures from northern Ghana during that period.

Beyond frontline politics, Adam also contributed to Ghana’s agricultural and financial sectors, including serving as Board Chairman of the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB), an institution with a major role in financing agriculture and agribusiness activities across the country.

Following reports of his death, tributes have begun pouring in from political figures and sympathisers. Atta Issah described the late politician as a man whose wisdom, dedication and years of service had influenced many.

The passing of Ibrahim Adam brings to an end decades of involvement in Ghana’s political and agricultural development.

As his family, friends, political associates and supporters mourn, further information concerning funeral arrangements is expected to be announced in due course.
