Kotoko Crack Down on TikTok Lives as Players Ordered to Seek Permission Before Going Live

Email 9

Asante Kotoko have introduced a strict new social media directive preventing players from freely going live on TikTok while representing the club without first securing permission.

The move was explained by the club’s Brands Manager, David Obeng Nyarko, who told players that their social media activities must respect the image rights they have granted to Asante Kotoko.

Under the directive, players are expected to seek approval before conducting TikTok Live sessions or recording dancing videos while wearing Kotoko apparel or using club-controlled spaces and property, including the team bus.

The decision does not amount to a complete ban on players using TikTok privately. Instead, it places tighter controls on content that could directly associate a player’s online activity with the Porcupine Warriors and their commercial image.

“You need permission to do TikTok Live,” Obeng Nyarko told the players during the club’s branding session, as Kotoko moved to educate the squad about protecting the badge and maintaining professional standards online.

The directive signals Kotoko’s growing determination to control how its brand, jerseys and other official materials appear across social media.

Players have increasingly built large audiences on platforms such as TikTok, Instagram and Facebook, where live videos and dancing clips can quickly attract thousands of views. For Kotoko, however, the popularity of those platforms also creates the challenge of ensuring content linked to the club reflects its desired image.

The latest warning means players will now have to think twice before grabbing their phones and starting a TikTok Live session while dressed in Kotoko colours.

The development has already attracted attention among supporters, with some viewing the policy as a necessary professional step, while others may see it as a tough restriction on players’ freedom to interact with fans.

One thing is clear: at Asante Kotoko, wearing the badge online now comes with rules and TikTok Live requires permission first.
